To DR. G. E. SPARHAWK 1 Executive Department, February 2, 1860.

Dr. G. E. Sparhawk Dear Sir: Your letter of the 17th.of January is now before me and in regard to the inquiries made therein, I must say that to give you an accurate description of the peculiarities of different sections of our State, it would comprise a considerable history, each locality having, as a matter of course, its own peculiar induce- ments. I would advise you to get a copy of Yokum's History of Texas, from which you will obtain all the information you may desire relative to the climate, productions, soil &c. You desire to know the name of some reliable newspaper. I would suggest the Civilian and Gazette published in the city of Galveston, and in conclusion will simply say come and see for yourself, feeling at the same time an assurance that you will not fail to be pleased. Sam Houston. 1 Gove1-no1·s' Letters, Texas State Library. No further information has been found concerning Dr. Sparhawk.
