with such information on the state of the frontier as you may deem important. You can extend or contract your lines of observation as you may think the state of the frontier requires, and will best afford to it protection. You are authorized to select six good Mexican guides to be regularly enrolled in your company with pay not exceeding that of privates. You are authorized to procure a blacksmith with suitable tools and muster him into your company as a private, with such extra compensation as is allowed by the regulations of the United States army. Any member guilty of intoxication or insubordination will be dismissed without honorable discharge. Sam Houston.

McCord Sir: You will proceed to Austin immediately and call at the State Department and get ten cayacks and ten pack Saddles, and ten pack blanketts and one ordinance Chest and give the necessary receipts and ascertain of the Governor whether he wishes to give an order to Mr. Bush for the ambulance and four Mules and if so. you can get them to transport those articles to San Antonio and if you don't get them you will purchase a wagon and four Mules as they are indispensible to the public Service, and report to me at this place or at San Antonio.
