You will see by the accompanying resolution that a call has been made on the Executive for information in relation to an appropriation made for the benefit of the Indians residing in Polk and Tyler Counties. Colo. Thomas Carothers, Huntsville, Texas Dear Sir: Your letter of late date, 9th inst; has come to hand. Upon forwarding to the directors their commission, I enclosed them also the following letter referring to their duties &c &c. Upon pages 469, 470, and 471 of Oldham & White's Digest, Articles 114 to 122 inclusive, you will find the duties of the Superintendent fully set forth. A reference to the 113th section of the Code will show that although you may nominate the under officers, with the Directors remains the sole power of appointing them. If you have committed yourself in favor of Dr. Baker, it is your privilege to nominate him, but the Directors can appoint any one they choose. I promised the office to Doctors Renfro &
