Setting out in the world for himself in 1836, he came to Texas and joined the Texan army in which he served until 1838. He then settled in the German colony at Fredericksburg, and in 1858-1861 represented Gillespie County in the Texas Legislature. See William De Ryee, Texas Album of the 8th Leg-islature, p. 194.
