A REQUEST IN BEHALF OF CASTRO, THE LIPAN CHIEFt Executive Department, City of Houston, June 21st, 1842. To all to whom these presents shall come, Greetings: Be it known that Castro, the Principal Chief of the Lipans, with sev- eral of his tribe, has been on a visit of business to the Executive, and is now on his return to his camp in the neighborhood of Austin. On his route, it is expected and requested of all good citizens that he and his people receive evidences of friendship, and be furnished with necessary supplies of beef for their sub- sistence-for which payment will be made by the government, upon proper and sufficient vouchers being produced of the same having been furnished. The Lipans have always proved themselves valuable as friends and allies in the numerous expeditions which have been sent out from the frontiers into the territories of the hostile Indians; and they may, in the future, be very successfully employed in the prosecution of the war against Mexico. Let them, therefore, re- ceive justice and good treatment. Sam Houston. 1 Executive Reco1·d Book, No. 40, p. 101, Texas State Library.
