To the Honorable, the Senate: In reply to a resolution of your Honorable Body, requesting copies of all correspondence which may have taken place between this government and that of His Majesty the King of the French, relative to the reestablishment of friendly relations between them, the Executive herewith transmits the copy of a letter addressed by the Department of State to _Mr. de Saligny, Charge d'Affaires of France. To the Honorable, the Senate: In compliance with a resolution of your Honorable Body, ask- ing for information in relation to the expedition under the command of Colonel Jacob Snively, I have the honor to transmit herewith a copy of the instructions 2 to that officer in February last, and copies of his reports to the Department of War and Marine, explanatory of his proceedings and the unpleasant occurrences immediately connected with the breaking up of the expedition. When the Senate shall have perused the accompanying papers, the Executive respectfully requests that the same be transmitted to the House of Representatives.
