To the Honorable, the Senate: In compliance with a resolution of your Honorable Body, re- questing copies of the correspondence between this government and that of Great Britain in reference to the claims of British subjects to lands in Texas, I herewith transmit the same, so far as it has not heretofore been communicated to Congress-as ·will be seen from the accompanying communication from the Honor- able Anson Jones, Secretary of State. Mr. Joseph Walker, Sir-Should you find the mine contemplated, or any mine within the territory or limits subject to the disposition of the Executive, you shall have a preference in working the same, agreeably to la".., with such persons or hands as may be necessary for the purposes connected with mining. You will, as early as possible, communicate the results of your discoveries. Should you meet any Indians in your excursions, you will repre- sent to them the friendly disposition of this government, and, as
