circulation of the first issue. I will not issue any more until the present amt. is taken up. I will sustain you in the principle agreed upon by us! Be careful to have it noticecl and im,rrressed upon the public that "self created" agents, said to be of Texas, are no agents, but imposters. They will be numerous in the U. S. We must pre- vent imposition if possible. I will let you know when I wish you in Houston. I ,vould be happy to embrace you, but it can't be so now. You will loose no "Laurels." They are all on paper for the present. For my- self, I feel confident that we will have no invasion "sub rosa." Get all the provisions you can subscribe. We will need them! Salute Christy and ask him to come to see me, if he can. I have pressed him much! We salute you again. Write often. All are well in Texas. Houston. [Addressed]: To Hon. W. H. Daingerfield, New Orleans, U. States. Capt. Wright. 1 :Missouri Historical Society, Jefferson Memorial, St. Louis, Missouri.

I will tell you a fact. At one time we had 2,400 men in the field, and more than 300 had no arms, and were eating beef, when we had no money, nor the Government any credit. The people would trust me as Sam Houston, and from one man I purchased 250 beeves. At this time there is no beef west of Colorado. The late flurry has destroyed it by the prudence, wisdom & subordination of Neddy, good Neddy Burleson. By the next Boat, the Neptune, I will send you another proclamation on the subject of prepara- tion by Texas for "coming events." I can only say, let us have a fair, or ample supply of provisions, ·without it all is smoke! Let there be a depot in New Orleans for them. Let the papers of Orleans so far as prudent, or as we ought, impress this fact. Let the supplies be such as will not waste. This is Sunday. I have been at church, and hope to have rest the balance of the day! It was the first time I was in church
