APPOINTMENT OF THOMAS CASEY VOLUNTEER AID TO THE PRESIDENT 1 REPUBLIC OF TEXAS TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME: Know ye, that I Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas, and Commander-in-Chief of the army and navy thereof, reposing special trust and confidence in the valor, ability, patriot- ism, volunteer aid, and good conduct of Thomas Casey, Esquire, do appoint him, the said Thomas Casey, Esquire, Volunteer Aid to the President, as Commander, etc, as aforesaid, with the rank and grade of Major; and he will be obeyed and respected accordingly. Given under my hand and seal, at the City of Houston, the 9th day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun.dred and forty-two, and of the independence of the Republic the Seventh.
