TO TORREY & BROTHERS 1 Executive Department, ·washington, June 1, 1843.

To Messrs. Torrey & Brothers : 2 Gentlemen - Enclosed you have a memorandum of articles wanted for this Department. It is furnished you under the belief that Capt. Woodhouse 3 did not make a similar purchase for the Government at New Orleans. If, therefore, you undertake to procure these articles' they will be purchased of you by the government in the event they have not been procured by Capt. Woodhouse-which is not probable. Make your purchase upon the best terms possible; that you may be the better able to accommodate the government in moderate charges. Sam Houston.
