to the Annexation Convention; in 1847, and again in 1849, he was a can- didate for the governor's office. Although unsuccessful in both these guber- natorial races, he rolled up a handsome vote each time. (See Election Returns for 1847, and 1849, Texas State Library.) In 1851, he was appointed one of the commissioners to investigate fraudulent land titles west of the Nueces River. Throughout his long and active career, J. B. Miller never gave up the practice of his profession, and was reckoned one of the best physicians in Texas. He died in 1854.
