COMMISSION TO MATTHEW P. WOODHOUSE FOR NEGOTIATING A CONTRACT FOR $50,000, FEBRUARY 15, 1843 1 SAM HOUSTON, in the name and by the authority of the Republic of Texas, to all whom it may concern: KNOW YE, that, in pursuance of the provisions of an act of Congress of the Republic of Texas, entitled "an act to authorize the President to negotiate a Loan of one million of dollars," approved, January 22d., 1839, I have appointed, constituted and commissioned, and hereby appoint, constitute and commission M. P. Woodhouse, Esquire, on behalf of the said Republic, to negotiate, contract for and receive the sum of Fifty Thousand Dollars, to be raised under the provisions of the act aforesaid; and to stipulate, obligate and bind the said Republic as he shall be authorized and empowered by the said act and the special instructions which shall be furnished him for his government in the premises. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and affix the Great Seal of the Republic. Done at Washington, the 15th day of February, in the year 1843, and of the independence of Texas the seventh.
