To WILLIAM HENRY DAINGERFIELD 1 Executive Department, Washington, February 10, 1843 To Hon. W. H. Daingerfield: Sir In the discharge of duties assigned you at New Orleans, you will procure to be engraved and forwarded to the Treasury Department, as early as practicable, the amount of twenty four thousand dollars in change notes~ of the following denominations, viz: 12 1/2 cents; 25 cents; and 50 cents, eight thousand dollars.- You will adopt such devices for them as will make the notes neat and appropriate. The lettering, I suppose, should correspond with that of the Exchequer bills. I designed at one time to have a portion struck of the denom- ination of 75 cents. It will be unnecessary, and you will therefore procure the denominations above specified only. You will also procure and have conveyed to the Treasury De- partment all the plates which have been used in New Orleans, for striking money for Texas. It will secure us against fraud.
