9. If injury is done to either party by the other, the same is to be made known to the agent, who is to inform the government of Texas, or the chief of the Indians, as the case may be. 10. If either party have prisoners, they shall be given up to the other without price. If a citizen or citizens .of Texas, or any Indian, or Indians, shall be found by the people of either party, they shall protect and assist them, and take them to a place of safety, as brothers. 11. The chiefs of the tribes in treaty, to the number of two to each tribe, may visit the seat of government once a year, at the expense of the government, and counsel with the President in person. They shall be protected and supported at the expense of the government while on the trip. 12. That whenever any property is found among the whites belonging to the Indians, it shall be the duty of any Chief Justice, Justice of the Peace, Sheriff, or Constable, to see that the same is restored; and on the other hand, whenever property belonging to the whites is found among the Indians, the same shall be 1·estored in like manner by the Indian agent. 13. That no trader shall furnish any warlike stores to the Indians unless by express permission of the President. 14. That no ardent spirits or intoxicating liquors of any kind shall, under any circumstances be introduced within the limits of any nation or nations of Indians, or at any trading house, and any such liquors found within ten miles of the line of trading houses shall be destroyed, and the person or persons introducing, or attempting to introduce the same, shall be liable therefor to indictment in any county in the Republic, and upon conviction to a fine of not less t~an fifty nor more than five hundred dollars, and otherwise punished, at the discretion of the court. If any such person, or persons are in the employ of the government, they shall be removed immediately by the President. 15. That no person, or persons without special permission of the government, pass the line of trading houses, and then only for friendly purposes; nor shall any person or persons reside among, or remain within the limits of the territory assigned to the Indians, unless by express direction of the President. 16. That the Indians shall not come within the limits of the settlements without the special permission of an agent, and then only when accompanied by one or more white men appointed by the agent for that purpose.
