AN ELECTION PROCLAMATION, JULY 9, 1842 1 PROCLAMATION By the President of the Republic of Texas. Whereas, a vacancy has occurred in the House of Representa- tives, by the resignation of J. Hampton Kuykendall, member of that body from the County of Austin; Therefore, I, Sam Hous- ton, President of the Republic of Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do, by these presents order and direct, that an election be held in said County of Austin, on Wednesday the 13th instant to fill said vacancy, and that the Chief Justice, or Associate Justices, of said County give notice of said election, and order the returns to be made to him or them immediately after the holding of said election, and have the same conducted in all respects according to the Act regulating elections.
