and capacity of Col. Henry C. Scott, do by these presents consti- tute and appoint him, the said Col. Henry E. Scott in conjunction with Ethan Stroud, Esq., Joseph Durst, Esq., and Col. Leonard Williams to the office of Commissioner to treat with any and all Indians, on the Frontiers of Texas, agreeably to his instructions from the Department of War and Marine, giving and hereby granting: to him, the said Col Henry E. Scott, full power and authority, as such, to exercise and discharge, all and singular, the duties obligations, and trusts, to his said office in any wise appertaining by the Constitution and Laws of this Republic. To Have and to Hold the same, and all and every the Honors, Fees,· Perquisites, and Dues thereunto belonging, for and during and until the full end and term of his said appointment. Given under my Hand, and the Great Seal of the Republic at the City oL______________________this fifth day of July A. D. 1842 and of the Independence of said Republic the Seventh. AN EXECUTIVE PARDON FOR MAGNUS KEY
PROCLAMATION by the President of the Republic of Texas. Whereas, information has been received by the Executive that Magnus Key was at the last term of the District Court, held in and for the County of Houston, convicted of an assault with in- tent to kill, and sentenced by said Court to one years imprison- ment in the County Jail, and to pay a fine of seven hundred and fifty dollars, Texas Treasury Notes; and Whereas, the petition of sundry citizens to the Executive, ask- ing him to pardon said offence, and remit said fine, has also been received; Therefore, be it known, that I, Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas, by virtue of the power vested in me by the Constitution and law, do, by· authority of the same, and in the name of said Republic, by these presents, hereby pardon said Magnus Key, and remit the fine which he was sentenced to pay by said Court. And do further order and direct that the Sheriff
