upon receipt of these orders push forward to Camp Wichita in Clay County and report to Captain Dalrymple, who will report by Express to Colonel M. T. Johnson. Should your command or either of them be deemed necessary to the success of Colonel Johnson's expedition, you will be subject to his orders. Sup- plies have been sent forward to meet you at Belknap, or at Camp Wichita. You will receive information either at Belknap, or at Captain Dalrymple's camp where to join him. You will hand over to Mr. Gildart such stores as may not be necessary on your march. These orders are given supposing your command to be in a fitting condition for active service. Should any of your men be without horses or in any way unfit for the expedition you will discharge them. Mr. Gildart, the bearer of this dispatch has full instructions which you will be particular to see observed. Enclosed you will find a letter and circular to which I call your particular attention. This order will be communicated to Captain Dalrymple by you, and will supercede all former orders and control his, as well as your command. -Sam Houston.

He was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky, January 1, 1835; came to Texas from Louisville, Kentucky, September, 1856; was admitted to the bar at LaGrange, Texas, November 21, 1856.
