Hon. George McKnight Sir: The Executive feels very much disappointed at not hear- ing from you in relation to the objects of your commission. He had expected to hear from you at every point along your route, but has been thus far disappointed. You will, upon reaching Goliad, immediately make all proper disposition of government property as directed in your general instructions taking and giving receipts for the same and quickly muster the commands of Captain Ford, and Lieutenant [ ] 2 out of service. Since there were several lieutenants who were in command of detachments, or companies, it is not possible to supply the name with certainty; however, it was probably Lieu- tenant Robert M. White of whom Houston wrote.
To FRANK GILDART 1 Executive Department, Austin, April 21, 1860.
To Frank Gildart, Esq. Sir, You will proceed with the dispatches entrusted to your care, to the Camp of Captain E. Burleson, and should his com- mand be in a situation to execute the order sent to him, you will receive [from] and receipt to Captain Burleson for such public property as he may not require on this campaign, and pass it over to the Chief Justice of some County or confidential person taking receipt for the same. You will muster into service for twelve months, unless sooner discharged under Captain John Williams, or some other person, a Detachment of forty men, one Captain, one Lieutenant, three Sergeants and three Corporals, and turn over to such persons, such public property and stores as may be held by Captain Conner who will receipt to you for the same. You will then march the command of Captain Conner to Bur- nett, and there muster him and his company out of service. He
