Hon. C. R. Johns, Comptroller. Dear Sir, I have on the 10th inst., appointed John L. Ha)'nes 1 Quartermaster to the troops called into the service of the State by the Governor. He will arrange and examine all accounts of the Quartermasters of the various Ranging companies and transfer the same to you. His bond will be filed in your Department. He joined the United States Army in Mississippi and fought throughout the Mexican War. After the treaty of 1848, he settled at Rio Grande City, Starr County, Texas. Hon. C. R. Johns, Comptroller. Sir: You will pay Mr. Arthur Pue, 2 as a first lieutenant, in Captain Littleton's Company according to the Muster Roll of said Company. He came to Texas when he was a very young man, settled in Bandera County, and engaged in the cattle business. See the New Encyclopedia of Texas, I, 490.
