To ROBERT A. IRION 1

Columbia, Texas, 2nd Feby, 1837. Dear Irion : 2 My young friend, Mr. Reid 3 will hand you this note. You will find him amiable and treat him as my friend. He·wishes to see the Red Lands. Tell him all about them! Tell him all the news; he will tell you all we have! Keep a lookout in all things. We must watch and pray! Allen 4 left last night for Houston, and says it is a clever place. Two days since refused $6,000 for the present there that Wilson 5 made me after Congress rose, of the 12 lots in the town! 30 sold for $15,000 a few days since. Some at $1,000 each. The seat of Government will not be removed until it goes to Houston, I hope in some 30 days unless the Dons advance on us! Write to me often, I pray you. Salute all my friends, and don't forget the Fairest of the Fair!!! with her father, mother and all the little Raguets ! Sam Houston. Doct. R. A. Irion. 1 Dalla$ Morning News, March 14, 1915. The original letter is the prop- erty of Mrs. J. R. Irion, Dallas, Texas. 2 See Houston to Robert A. Irion, January 23, 1837. 8 This was probably John K. Allen. He and his brother A. C. Allen had just laid out the city of Houston, and had begun its development. John K. Allen did most of the travelling about in the interest of their enterprises. See Houston to Anna Raguet, May 20, 1837. •Robert Wilson. See Houston to Robert Wilson, December 28, 1835.
