Dear Sir, Your letters enclosing scraps and good news has just reached me, and so soon as I have time [ I will answer]. For God's sake fit out the Independence and send her to sea! To Mr. T. Toby, T. A. My dear Sir, I will add to my note of today, that you must send out the Independence. Let no fear of expense prevent it. The fate of our Country may depend upon it! For Heavens-sake despatch her! Write to me all things relative to her going into Port. Also confidentially, all things relative to those connected with her! I thank you greatly for the news you send me from time to time. We must look to you for news,- I hope it may be good from the East! Continue to tell me everything! Salute my friend Col Christy,:i and say to him to write, and for his comfort land has risen in value 200 per cent! Send out the Independence, & if necessary, I authorize you to pledge a first rate League of land on Red River at Port Bolivar, belonging to me of undoubted Title. I refer to Christy. Sam Houston.
