To those whom you know to be enemies you will extend no fa,vo1·s. Let is be known (as your discretion may suggest to you) that you will report to me the services of those who may here- after be useful in any way to the republic- You will render all the facilities possible to the commissioners sent to treat with the Indians, and I hope the most favorable results to our cause from the mission- As to m,y having confidence in you, I solicit you to rest assured that I entertain for yoi.I a high regard, and repose in your honor and chivalry the most implicit confidence.- I regard you as a sentinel at your present post, and I well know how you bore yourself in the conflict. I shall always be proud to reward your merit and requite your services.- You will, I confidently hope, be satisfied that no intention has been entertained to wound your feelings, or to compromise your honor! You will therefore retain your command, and command of the post of Bexar- I need not suggest to you the necessity of sleepless vigilance, and increasing caution- You know the enemy whom you have to guard against- therefore I rely upon your ability, patriotism, and watchfulness to preserve the charge confided to you! Present my kind salutations to your relatives. Embrace your Father for me! Sam Houston [Rubric] [Addressed]: To Col J. N. Seguin Comg Bexar, Texas Maj.
