Columbia Texas 20th Novr. 1836. Sir Col. Geo. W. Hockley, Inspector General of the Army of Texas, visits the United States as Chief of the escort of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, and also for the purpose of pur- chasing arms, ordnance, and munitions of war as may be 1·equired for our army. He will prefer making a purchase from the Gov- ernment of the United States, should he find upon application that any arms can be spared. His duty will also require that he visit the Armories, if approved by you, for the purpose of profit- ing by the improvements introduced within a few years past - Any facilities you can consistently render him to effect this object will be appreciated and acknowledged by Sam Houston [Rubric] Hon.
