I am just from the Hermitage to day with Col. Polk & family - his lady, and his sister travel with him, and I have in warm terms introduced you and my Cousin G. to them - not forgetting many kisses to my Daughter. Miss Polk is not only a fine young lady- but has the "Quills" to the amount of many thousands - say $40,000.00. I wish my Cousin to call and see the Ladies, and you to see the Colonel - very soon. Inclosed I send my dear Cousin some flowers which I brought from the Hermitage this day, with the best wishes and friendship of the "Old Chief" & Mrs. Jackson, for your joint happiness & prosperity. Kiss my Cousin Gertrude & my daughter Mary, and say that my heart is present and I trust by the 4th of March to be present also. In affection salute my friends and rest assured I will ever remain truly thy friend & Cousin Sam Houston John H. Houston Esqr [Written across margin of·third page]: Write soon & often. 1 From the collection of Mr. W. A. Philpott, Jr., Dallas, Texas.

My dear Worth, I saw our friend - she is as fair as ever. My friend Joe went with me. I spent a delightful evening! You will curse me a little for not stopping to see you! I can't do it, that will satisfy you for the present. You know my heart is with you in the bosom of your little family. What you can spare from them of love, I lay claim to! I need not tell you how much I regret not being able to call on you! You will commend me to Mrs. Worth, Miss Worth, and kiss your little cherubs for me. That little Mag (as you call her) is a full blooded Worth, or I am no judge, and Mary is just like our Maupin Gal. Take care of our Young Tennessee Boys - Commend me to them - I prefer to do so thro' you! Commend me to all our friends on the Point. Write to me at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. May God bless you & yours my dear friend. Thine Forever Sam Houston " Maj Worth
