they intend it to be so- Mexican spies can't be surprised. They are too wary for that. Sam Houston [Rubric] [Addressed]: To Genl. Thomas J. Rusk Cong Army Texas Captain John M. Bradley was an early settler of the Ayish district, living just north of the Patroon Bayou. He was a lieutenant in Captain Bailey Ander- son's company in the Nacogdoches campaign of 1832, and was a delegate to the convention in San Felipe the same year. In the Texas Revolution he raised a company of volunteers and participated in the Storming of Bexar in 1835. In 1844, the Regulators under Moorman accused Bradley of harboring their enemies, and sought to kill him, but he escaped their vengeance. To avoid the danger of assassination Bradley left home and went to San Augustine. There Charles W. Moorman killed him at a revival meeting. To THOMAS J. RusK 1

13th Aug. 1838. Dear Genl. I saw your note to Col. McLeod/ and it may all be true. By sending scouts up the Angeline and posting pickets up it, you can discover if the enemy meditate an attack on this place. If they approach it will be in vain to look for succor from you, when they once assault the town, and if they attack, they will cut off all communication with the army previous to the attack. I can't judge of the probability of the report as well as you can. If the Bowl means to compromise with the enemy-you accept such terms as will give honorable peace to the country. God prosper you, and I only wish you may soon put an end to the war. Sam Houston [Rubric] Genl T. J. Rusk Cong T. A. [Addressed] : To Genl. T. J.
