Corpus Christi should be included with Copano. Every means will be taken to evade the Revenue laws of the country, & it must be prevented. Sam Houston [ Rubric] Hon. H. TO JACOB ROTHAAS 1 Executive Department, City of Houston, Texas, 21 June, 1838. Sir: You are under a misapprehension in supposing that any intrigues have been carried out against you. From Mr. Wilson I had understood that you •intended a trip to the West, and would not be at the disposition of the Gov.nt The Executive is compelled to act upon the emergencies of his situation. Whenever you are ready to appreciate the claims you have upon the President, he will always be ready to assert them, but he must be satisfied that an individual must be ready to meet the responsibilities of a station before he will confer it on any man. You will call and see his Excellency the President. The Secre- tary of War is the person to whom you will be first referred. Sam Houston. [Addressed]: Mr. Jacob Rothaas, Esq. City of Houston
