30th May 1838 The President has vast desires to know what money was drawn besides Salaries, by order of the President ad interim for Sup- plies-furniture &c Sam Houston. [Addressed] : To John W. Moody Esq. Present 1 J. W. Moocly Pave1·s, Texas State Library. About this same time Houston wrote another note to John W. Moody. It is undated and un- signed except for Houston's rubric, and is omitted because so nearly iden- tical with th!S dated one.
PASSPORT TO COMANCHE CHIEFS 1
To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern, GREETING: I, Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas, do hereby request, all who may meet with the bearers: Muguarrah, Mues- tyah, and Muhy, Chiefs of the Comanche Nation, who are the friends and brothers of the Texians, freely to permit them to pass through the country so long as they conduct themselves with peace and friendship towards the whites, and to treat them with kindness and attention. If any trader or other person authorized by the Government should visit the Comanche Nation, he is to have free and safe conduct, and in case of need to be protected. Given at the City of Houston under my hand and the great Seal of the Republic this thirtieth day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight, and the third year of Texian independence.
