adjourned, LeGrand again enlisted in the Texan army, joining the company of Captain Kimbro, and in this company participated in the battle of San Jacinto. In 1838 (see above document) he was elected Chief Justice of San Augustine County; in November, 1839, he was elected inspector of the third brigade. He served for a number of years as a notary public for San Augustine County. He never man-ied. From 1846 until his death in 1871 he lived in the home of his sister, Mrs. W. C. Norwood. Money was granted title to land in Austin's third colony on March 31, 1831 ( Colonial Land Titles, General Land Office of Texas). He was one of the assistant surveyors with Horatio Chiesman before the Texas Revolution, and was serving as treasurer of the Municipality of San Felipe when the revolution broke out in 1835 (Gammel, Laws of Texas, I. 723). On December 30, 1835, he was elected comptroller of the Provis:onal Gov- ernment (ibid., 717), and on January 17, 1836, he was elected marshal of Texas by the Provisional Council (ibi.d., 801). From April to July, 1836, he served as a private in Captain Baker's company and participated in the battle of San Jacinto. From 1838 to 1841 he served as Chief Justice of Austin County (see Dixon and Kemp, Heroes of San Jacinto, 191). 0 Napoleon Bonaparte Thompson. I have the pleasure of laying before you, the constitutional advisers of the President, the following appoint- ments, which have been made during the recess of Congress, and should the list not contain all which have been made, as soon as information can be obtained from the Departments in 1·elation to them, they will be nominated by me with much satisfaction.
