Irion, Secretary of State [Endorsed] : Proclamation for the election of a Senator for the County of San Augustine to be held on the 1st Monday of Feby 1838 25th Nov. 1837. Recorded page 13 Examined. 1 P1·ocla111ations of the P1·esidents, Revublic of Texas, Texas State Library. 2 Henry W. Augustin had a good military record. He participated in the battle of Nacogdoches in 1832, and commanded a company in the Cherokee war of 1839, in which war he lost a leg from an arrow wound. He was a major in the fight against the Cordova rebellion. As the above document shows, he resigned as senator on November 24, 1837. He was succeeded by John Greer, who took his seat at the opening of the adjourned session. See Crocket, Two Centw-ies in East Texas, 121, 156, 172, 190. William C. December, 1837 HOUSTON'S PROMISSORY NOTE TO DAVID HARRIS 1

$2438.67 cents Two years after date I promise to pay to David Harris of the County of Harrisburg, his heirs or assigns, the just and full sum of T\vo thousand and thirty eight dollars and sixty seven cents for value received, to which payment well and truly to be made; I hereby bind myself and all my property-present and future-My heirs, &c-firmly by these.
