3 Ellis P. Bean (the name is also found Peter EJ1is Bean) was born in Tennessee, and probably knew Houston as a boy. He came to Texas with Philip Nolan. He was taken prisoner at Nolan's death and spent nearly twenty years in Mexico-most of the time in prison. He returned to Tennessee in 1818, but in 1825 returned to Texas as a colonist and settled at Mound Prairie. In 1832 he built Fort Teran on the Neches river. His old-time friendship with Houston was renewed and he cooperated with him in 1836 to keep the Indians quiet during the campaigns of that year. After the Texas Revolution Bean returned to Mexico and married a wealthy woman near Jalapa. He died at her ranch, October 3, 1846. See Thrall, A Pictorial Histo,11 of Texas, 499-500.
