It is a curious coincidence, that this same Dr. Ker treated his wounds after the battle at Horse-Shoe Bend. (Information given by Mr. Temple Morrow.) 3 David P. Richardson was Houston's private secretary. He died, August 16, 1837, from an infected bone-felon. See Houston to Anna Raguet, August 2, 1837; also, on August 22, 1837. 4 Peter W. Grayson. To General T. J. Chambers: Sir:- I had the honor to receive your letter under date of the 22d inst. and referring to your communication addressed through the Secretary of War on the 4th inst., in which you solicited orders and instructions. A great press of business has necessarily devolved upon all the departments of the government for some time past and pre- vented me from communicating as early as I desired. In relation to the subject of your appointment by the Provis- ional Government, it does seem to me that they had .no right to create any such appointment under the organic law. The gen- eral consultation created the army and said what should con- stitute it: It elected a commander-in-chief of the army with the rank of Major General and specifically stated what should con- stitute the staff of the army.
