Send word to Boluxies [sic], Choctaws, and other tribes, a message to the same effect. Don't fail to use all possible means to obtain the meeting. I will see the Cosatees, Muscogies, and Alabamas; as I pass on, or send word. We must act as far as possible, to aid our country. I wish to get our the corps of mounted Gun men, so as to secure the frontier, with the aid of the friendly Indians. Sam Houston I will be happy to see you there. PROCLAMATION CONCERNING THE APPOINTMENT OF JAMES PINCKNEY HENDERSON, AGENT TO GREAT BRITAIN 1 In the name of the Republic of Texas, Free Sovereign and Independent, To All whom these presents may come or in any way concern, Greeting, I Sam Houston President of the said Republic by virtue of a resolution passed by the Congress of the same bear- ing date the 15 day of May Ulto. conferring on me full power to nominate and appoint, an Agent to the Court of Great Britain, for the purpose of soliciting and procuring the recognition by that Government of the Independence of this Republic, do, by these presents, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, nominate and appoint J. Pinckney Henderson 2 said agent to effect the object contemplated by the resolution aforesaid. And I do hereby authorize and empower him the said J. Pinckney Henderson, to hold such intercourse with the Department of Foreign affairs of the Government of Great Britain, as that Department may see fit to accord and as may be meet for the object in view.
