To THOMAS ToBY 1
Columbia, Texas, 17th March 1837. Dear Sir, Since closing my letter of this date -an additional reason has presented itself why you should act in consequence of· not having your accounts current, with this Government accompanied by the proper vouchers. Many drafts, for money, and Scrip, have been drawn upon you, in favor of persons sent to the U. States, by the "Govern- ment" acl interim on business. Without your accounts, it is im- possible for this Government to know what amount, or whether any was received by them. They now present their accounts for settlement, and some charge themselves, with a certain amount, but for want of your Statement, and accounts, with their receipts given to you, we have no data, by which to settle! This you will at once discover presents a great, impediment to the transaction of business, and must prevent all settlements, of accounts, con- nected with your agency until your accounts with this Govern- ment can be received. It is of great importance to individuals, as well as to the interests of this Government, that they should be rendered forthwith! I do hope you will attend to it, and the proper officers can then be enabled to settle with the various applicants who may call for the adjustment of their accounts. Until this is done the Government will be subject to, imposition, or individuals to de- lay, and injury. Let it be done soon!
