To His DAUGHTER NANNIE 1

Washington, 16th June, 1854. My Dear Daughter, I was surprised agreeably by your letter. I thought you would write to me as soon as you could, but I thought that you could not write as well as you do. I love you very much, and I am more happy that you love me; for I know you love your Ma & little sisters, as well as your brother. Tis true you have little quarrels, but they are soon over, and dont reach the heart. · I know you say your prayers, and I hope you will never do any thing, which the Savior forbids in his teachings to his disciples. I must look out for some pretty present for you as well as the other little fellows. You must give my love to Sally Mayner, Cousin Missy and Cousin Puss. You must kiss Grand Ma & little sisters, and hug them round the neck for me. Thy devoted Father Sam Houston. Nannie E.
