to the business, request him to give the business into the hands of some one, who will see the Colonel at once. If he can't pay me, he must be sued, and I care not about the Statute of limitation. Can I not rely on my friends? Who is a good Collecting Lawyer on whom I can rely? Write to me by return mail, & let me know. I am willing to let the matter be arbitrated, and if it is not agreed to by Col. Ward, I will wish suit brought forthwith. The money I will have, or the transaction shall be exposed. Tell my cousin Frank to take care of the papers. I intend to start to- morrow morning to Nacog-doches on business, and hope to be gone about five days, provided Mrs. H., who is not well, should be better this evening. You will see a letter in the "Richmond Examiner," from Commr. E. W. Moore,3 addressed to Mr. Pearce,4 Senator of Maryland. I am reflected on by Moore. Now, I like this ex- tremely, and only wish the proper time to arrive to attend to it. Now, I want you to send me a copy of the journals, or at least I wish you to send me a copy of the Report made by J.;W. Scott,5 in the case of Moore for some of his rascality at last session! Don't fail in this my Dear Miller, and ask my friend Shaw to send me a memorandum, of the amounts which he drew, as administrator of different estates. I do not want these things for publication, nor as official documents, but that I may have them on hand ! I never involve any of my friends by using information derived from them. I want you to send me the secret act of Congress passed while the Navy was at New Orleans, or refer me to the laws directing the Navy to be laid up in ordinary in 1842 & 1843. Now, you are always apologizing to me about troubling me. I think it is my time now to :ask yoru· pa1·don, which I do in all truth and sincerity! I hope you will write me just as often as you can! Cant you take the stage, and come to Washington on the 24th of June, or say the 22nd, and then we can have some chats about many things, when I may ha:ve the pleasure of keeping you awake •for at least two nights!!! I intend to be there, and may take Sam with me to see his native place. Mrs. Houston and Sam join in best regards to you, & kindest regards to your Sister, & her family.
