Huntsville, 21st Dec. 1847.
My Dear Colonel, I wrote to you a short time since, and told you the state of matters, in relation to the suit. I now write to request of you to attend to the case of Floyd, VS Stephen G. McClenny. 2 By so doing you will confer a favor upon the Doctor, as well as myself. The Doctor has suffered great wrong in the case, and I hope everything in his favor. There is another case in Supreme Court in which I am involved, by the Treachery of Genl. Henderson. In Court, I appear as the prosecutor of Duffield. It was a personal favor to Henderson, which caused me to present the petition for him because he said he was sick, and might not be able during court to attend to the matter. He told me it would be necessary to sign it. I did it, as I would for any friend, whom I loved, as I then did Genl. Hender- son. Now, I know him wide!!! I may be much in the costs of the suit unless it is attended to. About 4 o'clock P. M. last evening, I received an express from Austin with my credentials as Senator. The vote stood for Hous- ton 60 & G. scattering. This was all right. Those ·who voted against me with two exceptions, Hardeman and Haynie, I would not have had to vote for me. They are men that I like and have always thought well of. The others, I would not that they should vote for me ! You will please present to Madam, and the Boys our united affection, as well as a full share to the Colo. himself. If you see
