TO JAMES KEMP HOLLAND 1

Huntsville 4th Sept. 1851. My Dear Holland, Next to the pleasure of seeing you, and your Father, was that of receiving your letter from San Augustin. I regret much that anything should have hindered you in visiting me, and most particularly your indisposition. As you are on the recovery, I hope you will soon enjoy established health. You would have met all your friends here happy to receive you, and I would have claimed your Father, pretty much to myself. The elections went pretty well throughout the State. I am truly glad, that the members of the Supreme Court were re- elected. The Governor might have been mended much! I will now turn to something more pleasant to young bachelors. The young ladies to whom you allude, are all single, and as charming, and beautiful as ever! Had you only made me the visit I would, with the aid of Mrs. Houston, have sent you home married, I have no doubt, and a happier and better man, than you now are. To be truly good, you ought to marry, and marry in Texas! · Since I had the pleasure to 1·eceive your letter, I have not had an opportunity of seeing th~ Young Ladies, as they are on a visit to Grimes Co. to see some relatives. Cant you make us a visit about the 10th of October? If ~rou can we will all be happy to see you. The Season will be fine, and I tben intend to be at home, for about the 16th I will have to be absent at the Falls of the Brazos, at court. If you come to Huntsville, and then remain a Bachelor, I will know the reason why, and if need be, I can sympathize with you, in the continuance of you,,. misfortune! Say to your Father, that no man is nearer to my heart than he is, and I would be 1·ejoiced to see him at my ,vigwam. I am fearful, that it will not be in my power, to pass by him & call
