4 Hayden S. Arnold was born in Tennessee in 1805, immigrated to Texas in 1835, enlisted in the Texas Army at Nacogdoches, January 14, 1836 (Muster Rolls, 114, General Land Office), and on March 6, was elected captain of the first company of the Second Regiment of Texas Volunteers. On November 8, 1836, President Houston appointed him a commissioner to treat with the Indians. Captain Arnold was also a member of the House of Representatives from Nacogdoches County in the First Texas Congress, serving from October 3, 1836, to June 13, 1837. He died at his home in Nacogdoches in 1839; his estate was administered by his widow, Selina Arnold.
