To HENRY RAGUET 1

Columbia Texas 1st Nov. 1836 Dear Colonel,2 We are just getting under way with the new order of things. I hope for better days, tho I came in at a gloomy period. The army had but one days bread stuff, and two of our vessels of war are detained in the harbour of New York-I will make some changes, in the army as well as the navy. The news from Mexico so far as rumour goes, is favorable to our cause. They have great troubles at home, and no doubt they will in- crease The old adage may hold good - that "it is a bad wind that blows no body good." My time is greatly occupied, and will be for some time to come - Our accomodations are miserable here. Edwards & Allen are both sick, and I regret it at this time. Many are sick, and more will be so! I hope you are quite restored! and may remain so. I was somewhat uneasy about you, when I left you - I am very well, and look to the perfect restoration of my health. I was charmed the other day at receiving by your care, a very interesting letter from Miss Anna, and pray you to forward the enclosed to her, if ·she has not returned to Nacogdoches. I have written her a long letter, and promised to do the best for Texas
