ORDER Mr. Charles H. Sims~

Sir You are hereby appointed as an assisting acting Quarter Master of Texas, to call on all persons, who hold publick funds in their possession, to pass the same to you for which you will pass your receipts when you disburse any portion of the same, using the greatest economy. You will at all times be held responsible for the Amount received by you until vouchers are produced, to the Government for its disposition, under the direction of the Committee of Vigilance and Safety of this place. Sims was a resident of Nacogdoches, and was sent by the Committee of Safety of that place to the Cherokee Indians to investigate conditions among them and to keep them pacified during the Texas Revo- lution. He continued to act as Indian Agent during Houston's first admin- fatration. This document shows that he was also appointed Assistant Quar- termaster for Texas. HOUSTON ORDERS RETURN OF SLA YES TO RETSON MORRIS 1 Having receiv€d the fullest assurance and the most Satisfactory evidence that two African Negroes now present, names unknown, were impressed by Robert Potter Esq Secy of the Navy of Texas of Mr. Retson Morris acting Agent for Mr. Munro Edwards, for the purpose of employing them in publick works on Galveston Island, and afterwards being in charge of a Mr. Blunt on their way to said Potters Plantation on Red River were detained pass- ing through this place by the Alcalde George Pollett Esq, I there- fore hereby Order them to be immediately surrendered to the said Morris and do by these presents put him in possession of the same.
