which the liberty & reputation of every American Citizen is in- volved, and I am proud to be its representative on the present occasion. My counsel~ is too indisposed to proceed in his argu- ment until Thursday next. So soon as he is done (if permitted) I will myself address the House,-! presume I will be allowed to do so! I had intended to set out for NE.w York, whenever I might hear from you, but this business arising on the 14th Ult, and your letter, was received on the 17th. So that you know, it will perplex me a little. Whenever I get thro I will repair to your city, and so soon as matttrs can be arranged, I will set out for the land of 1n·omise. 3 You must have matters so arranged as to require but little delay-When I see you. I can tell you many things which you will like to hear of-none by the bye, which will present and obs_tacles to our wishc:s-but promotive of every rational expecta- tion, and well regulated hope! Our friend Pearse 1 is now Consul to Matamoras. On yesterday his nomination was confirmed by the Senate! I have a new project for you when we meet- My Gold mine matters lay idle, as I expect my partner~ on to the Baltimore Convention, and I have no doubt, but he will have such evidence as will satisfy any per- son who may wish an interest, that it is truly valuable! This is a reply to the following letter from Prentiss: "New York, 15th Apl 1832 "General James [Sam] Houston "Dear Sir, The Vera Cruz Packet which arrived last night brings Mexican news to 23 Ult. from Vera Cruz-Santa Anna was firm and in full confidence of success-It is generally believed however that the ministers may yet bee able to hold out several weeks & perhaps months-In the meantime the present state of affairs in that country is eminently calculated to advance our views-hence I think it expedient that you go soon after-in the mean- time make ready for a rapid movement.
