redressing the wrong inadvertently inflicted; but if not deceived, that you would state generally, the evidence on which it was made; but never once did I suppose it possible that you would avail yourself of subterfuge and evasion; or that you would offer me the approval of your deliberate judgment, and term it explana- tion! I asked you for facts; they alone will satisfy me, that the injury was not wantonly inflicted and that it was not some unworthy motive which could induce a charge of such character against an army of brave men, who fought the action, and whose patriotism and lmmanity "in courtesy" would lose nothing, by comparison with those of any member of the anti-Ja..ckson con- vention, notwithstanding they may, have "represented thousands of their fellow citizens." Nashville 22 nd Oct 1828 My dear Sir You will receive this letter from the hand of my friend and cousin W. Caruthers/ who will hereafter reside in New Orleans. Thro' you I beg leave to present himself and his lady to the attention, and friendly civilities of your Father and his excellent family. I am assured that W C & his lady will be companions such as will be deemed worthy of their most friendly attentio'n; and no circumstances can afford · me more pleasure than to know, that they have been so fortunate, as to find friends of your family.
