Sir. The General Commanding the Department directs me to say, in acknowledging the receipt of your communications of the 21st and 23rd of May that he approves of your action in regard to Mr Baylor and his armed party but he desires you to use all possible means in your power to prevent a collision of the United States troops and the Citizens of Texas.
