I have this moment received the enclosed papers from the Department of the Interior from which it will be seen that measures have been taken for the removal of t.he Reserve In- :iians during the next fall or winter. Sir, Your letter of the 7th inst. making enquiries in regard to the measures to be adopted respecting the Wichita and other Indians to be located in the leased port.ion of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Country, has been duly considered. As you are aware, the want of a military post with an ade- quate force at the proper point in that country has necessarily delayed the commencement of operations for colonizing the In- dians intended to be placed there, including the Wichita. The War Department having at length, determined to establish the post, you will, as soon as the site therefor is selected, proceed with Agent Bla'in to select a proper site for an agency in the same vicinity and sufficiently near to be protected by the troops, and have the requisite agency buildings erected as soon as prac- ticable so that Mr. Blain can take post there at the earliest period it may be safe for him to do so.
