Sir

I am about to leave the seat of Govt. and shall be absent for two months and inasmuch as it is expected that some Indian dif- ficulties may take place during my absence which may require the energetic action of the several ranging companies now sta- tioned upon the frontier of Texas I have to request of you that you will promptly furnish to the several Commanders of those companies such supplies and means as may be required by them to enable them to pursue and punish any Indians who may com- mit depredations upon our frontier
