217 The number of men under my command is too small for the extent of country over which I am compelled to range, in order to give security to the settlements. If it is possible I shall render secure our county-more than this I cannot promise. I shall be more explicit in my next report.

No. 159 MESSAGE FROM H. R. RUNNELS TO SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Gentlemen of the Senate and House of Reps.

Enclosed I transmit for your information a copy of a letter from the Secretary of the Interior relative to the boundary between Texas and the United States Indian Territory and the ascertain- ment of the one hundred dlr meridian of west-longitude. The state of Texas has important interests in the adjustment of that boundary which should be in presented. I therefore recommend the adoption of the necessary measures for the appointment of a commission to act with that of the general Government which has been appointed to perform that duty.
