I take the liberty of enclosing a copy of a letter addressed to this office by Maj R. S. Neighbors the United States supervising agent of Texas Indians, in relation to the recent depredations upon the frontier of this state, from which you will·perceive that they were committed by the Kickapoos, a tribe belonging to the Indian Territory north of us, who have been permitted by the United States authorities in that territory to intrude into this state with passes This tribe has never been recognised as having any rights within the limits of this State and ought not to be permitted to come into it; I respectfully request if you have the authority to do so, that you will use the force under your com- mand to compel them to leave the State and not again return to it and if possible to have the murderers delivered up to the au- thorities for punishment, If you have not the authority to do this then I solicit your aid and cooperation in inducing the United
