Should you conclude to call upon Webb County for troops to serve against the Indians I would recommend to your considera- tion as commanding officer, J. A. Wilkinson, who has been in. Texas about 16 years, serving for a long time in the company of Capt. Hays at Bexar, and at the battle of Monterey under Gil- lespie, besides having passed some years of his life as a Trapper in the Rocky Mountains, he has been a long resident of this Town, and his appt. would be generally acceptable.
