Lamar D Sir, "Several of my personal friends, waited on me last week at my residence, and informed me, that J. R. Jones Esqr, the present P. M. General, have informed them that he intended to resign his office, at the meeting of the coming Congress- If it meets your approbation, I . should be pleased to accept the Office, and will give my undivided attention to its superintendence- I feel confident, that I can discharge its duties as well as any man in Texas, else I would not solicit the appointment- My friends insisted on getting up a petition to ac- company this note, but I have prevented them from doing so from respect to the feelings of the present 'incumbent, and for other reasons apparent to your Excellency-
