LAMAR, [AUSTIN, TEXASJ 92 To his Excellency Mirabeau B Lamar President of the Republic of Texas- Sir I hope you will not deem it impertinent if I beg leave to expre~s to you a few thoughts concerning the Country of Texas and also a few enquiries concerning the same When I first heard a description of the Country which is something like eight years since I had a favourable or.inion of it. And about the same tim a man owing me some money failed but one of his friends offering me eight thousand acres of Empresario lands in Texas I ac- cepted it and was not a little pleased at the opportunity of goining [sic] to that Country agreeably to my first impression on hearing of it We priced the land at 12½ Cents per acre which was pd
